In March of this Year, The University of Toledo Medical Center/College of Medicine lost one of its most legendary physicians.

Dr. John Howard, was a very distinguished surgeon, researcher, mentor and friend in the Department of Surgery at the University of Toledo Medical Center.

During the Korean War, Dr. Howard directed the U.S. Army’s Surgical Research Team which pioneered the MASH unit for which he was awarded the Legion of Merit by order of President Dwight D Eisenhower.

This year’s annual S. Amjad Hussain Visiting Lectureship, “In the History of Medicine” focused on the “Life and Works of John Howard, M.D. From M*A*S*H to the Black Swamp.”
