The City of Monroe partnered with the Monroe County Historical Society to host Dr. Dennis Montagna in a discussion of the life and works of the Monument’s Sculptor, Edward C. Potter. Mr. Potter was a renowned sculptor, especially as an animalier (animal sculptor), of the late 19th and early 20th centuries in the U.S. Several of his best known works include those done in collaboration with Daniel Chester French for the 1893 World Columbian Exposition as well as the Lions that flank the entrance to the NY Public Library.
