When Bizet’s Carmen premiered in Paris in 1875, it shocked audiences with its plot, its music-and especially its heroine.

Carmen shines a light on the challenges women faced in Bizet’s era and provokes modern audiences to reflect on what has changed and what remains the same for women.

The Toledo Opera held a forum at The Ebeid Institute.
